Weight: The males weigh between 18 to 27 kilograms (40 – 60 pounds) and the females between 16 to 22 kilograms (35 – 48 pounds).

Height: The Alaskan Husky stands at a height of 23 to 26 inches, which is about 58 to 66 centimeters.

Color/s: As these dogs are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they do not conform to any standard look. Their colors range from a solid color to a combination of gray, black and white. Sometimes brown, red and cream colors are also noticed.

Overview: This breed of dog originated in Alaska. It was primarily bred to pull sleds and taking part in sled pulling competitions. The Alaskan Husky is not a pure breed because it is a cross of many other dogs like the German shepherd, Border Collie, Siberian Husky and more. It is lean and muscular with long strong legs and a deep chest.

Character: The Alaskan Husky is an intelligent, fun loving and mild tempered dog. But at times it can exhibit streaks of obstinacy and willfulness where it becomes difficult to get it do anything. There is also a naughty side to this otherwise easy-going and calm dog. This dog is good with children and even acceptable of strangers. They seldom bark and are not good as watch dogs. Their loving sociable nature makes them very fond of their family and do not like to left alone.

Temperament: This dog is extremely even tempered and docile. Not given to too much unnecessary barking, it shows a calm and composed temperament. But idleness can make it howl as it gets bored easily, which can lead to it becoming very destructive and venting its anger and boredom on couches and rugs.

Care: Taking care of the Alaskan Husky is very easy. Brushing the dog once or twice a week will help in removing the dead hair that may accumulate on its coat and allow it have a well kept and well groomed look. The Alaskan Husky sheds it hair heavily. This happens twice in a year. Regular brushing during this time will help control the loose hair. Its nails need to be trimmed on a regular basis. The ears of this dog need to be cleaned regularly with veterinarian approved cleaning products. Taking care of its dental hygiene will ensure that the dog does not suffer from any dental problems.

Coat: The coat of the Alaskan Husky is self-cleaning and does not give off any stink. It has a thick and heavy undercoat and a heavy topcoat. This helps to protect from the elements while racing or pulling sleds in cold environments.

Training: These dogs are very intelligent and can be trained easily. But it must be remembered that, being intelligent they have a mind of their own. The training process needs lots patience on a consistent level. The thing to keep in mind while training this dog is to show firm leadership qualities and make it understand who the master is otherwise it will not obey commands.

Activity: Alaskan Huskies require long walks on a daily basis and a good amount of exercise to keep them fit and healthy. But in hot weather the amount of exercise should be carried out with caution. Having a large yard with a fence is the best place for this dog to exercise.

Life Span: The longevity of this dog is between 10 to 15 years.

Health Concerns: As with all dog breeds, the Alaskan Husky is also prone to certain health problems. They may be diseased with the storage of lysosomal; eye problems which can include progressive retinal atrophy and hypothyroidism, a hormonal disorder which is common in dogs.

Ideal Living Quarters: Although not normally suited to live in an apartment, but the Alaskan Husky, if it well trained and exercised regularly, can be kept in an apartment. Because of their heavy coats, it is only natural that proper shade and cooling be provided, as this dog prefers cool environments.
